AMIS (Adaptive Multimedia Information System)


AMIS is free open source DAISY playback software developed by the DAISY Consortium. Highlights of AMIS include its self-voicing interface, playback rate control, text searching and bookmarking, reading options, and page style customization. AMIS is available in multiple languages.

Bookshare Web Reader

Bookshare Web Reader is the quickest and easiest way to access and read Bookshare books for Individual Members. Can be used on any computer running one of these browsers: Chrome 33+, Safari 6.1+ and Chromebooks 14+. VoiceOver or TalkBack is required to read aloud on mobile browsers. Special features include font size adjustments, three built in color schemes, synchronized text-to-speech and support for images.

Latest Release: Bookshare Web Reader

The current version is optimized for Google Chrome and provides text-to-speech with the voice installed on user's computer in addition to word highlighting. Bookshare Web Reader can also be used with other Internet browsers (Firefox, Safari), but may not have full functionality.

DAISY Player by Jos Lemmens

DAISY player, available as a Ubuntu package and a full featured DAISY CD player for Linux. Also reads out loud ebooks in other formats including EPUB.

Dorina DAISY Reader (DDReader) for Windows

This open source DAISY 3 reading software was developed by the Dorina Nowill Foundation for the Blind in Brazil and is free to use and share. The DAISY books can be read by synthesized voice, pre-recorded narration, or text only. More information is provided on DAISYpedia.
