This article briefly describes basic features of this application. Refer to the DAISY2go manual for details on complete functionality.

What is DAISY2Go

NuanceDaisy2go is a player for DAISY books for mobile phones. Daisy2go is a part of the NuanceAccessibility Suite, and it has been optimized for the Nuance TALKS screenreading software.

Daisy2go supports the navigation features of the DAISY format. It allows navigation by headings, pages, phrases, time or percentage. It is easy to set bookmarks, resume playback from the last read position, increase or decrease the playback speed without pitch changes and search the book for specific word or phrase.

Supported phones

DAISY2go supports the mobile phones running S60 3rd and 5th Edition such as NOKIA C5, E5, E6 etc. A list of supported phones is available on the Nuance website.

Supported formats

DAISY2go can play books that conform to either DAISY 2.02 or DAISY 3 specifications. DAISY2go can also be used to read text-only books such as those available from Bookshare. DAISY2go has a DAISY-fy function which provides access to MP3 files with features like cueing, speed adjustment, bookmarks etc.

Opening books

To open a book on a mobile phone which has DAISY2go, you first need to copy the book into the phone memory and then add it to the DAISY2go bookshelf. Follow these steps to open a book:

  1. Connect the phone to the computer using data cable or use a memory card reader to access the phone’s memory card. Then copy the folders containing the books you want to read to the phone’s memory card.
  2. To start the DAISY2go application, open the MENU on the phone and navigate to the APPLICATIONS or INSTALLATIONS folder and press [Select] on the DAISY2go icon to open it. The DAISY2go bookshelf view will be displayed.
  3. Press [Key 1] for OPTIONS. Navigate to NEW BOOK, and press [Select].
  4. The SELECT MEMORY DIALOGUE appears; choose MEMORY CARD, and press [Select] twice. This action will search the memory card and present a list of all supported books. Note that you can alternatively browse the memory card and select folders or sub-folders to exactly locate and add a book to the bookshelf.
  5. Navigate the list of books on the screen and press [Select] or [0] to mark the titles that you want to add to the bookshelf. Finally, press [Key 1] to add all the marked books to the bookshelf.
  6. Now in the bookshelf screen press [Select] on the book that you want to open.

Book reading & navigation

When a DAISY title is opened, its table of content is displayed by default. Use the [Down/Up key] to select desired heading in the book. To play the audio and display the corresponding text, press the [Select] key. Pressing [Select] again will pause the playback.

When playback is paused, regular text reading commands of TALKS can be used to read the text of the DAISY title.

During playback, pressing the [Up or Down key] opens the PLAY VIEW that allows selection of level of navigation. Press [Up or Down key] to move between options such as HEADING 1, HEADING 2, TEXT BLOCK, PAGE AND PHRASE. Press [Select] on desired mode of navigation and then press [Right key] to move forward or [Left key] to go backward by selected unit of navigation. For example, if you select page as the level of navigation then on pressing [Right key] the playback will jump to next page.

The availability of navigation options depends upon the way the book has been produced. For example, if a book does not have page markings then page navigation will not be available during playback.

Note [Key 1] as used with TALKS keystrokes is generally the key on the bottom left of the screen. [Up, Down, Left, Right Keys] are the usual navigation keys on the phone.
